The collaboration between Shinya and NRV began in December 2021. Shinya had served as the mastering
engineer and an advisor since 2006 behind NRV’s main music project Antennasia, and their friendship
ensured shortly after working together. Shinya had compiled a comprehensive collection of field recordings
throughout Japan over the years and asked NRV to subtly add synthesizers and effects alongside them,
with the intention to be as unobtrusive as possible. The resulting pieces are akin to paintings on photos
from Japanese landscapes — exploring simple and familiar experiences — and reflecting them back to the
listener.
The artwork and photos were taken by Haruka Idachi, whose work NRV has always admired. NRV chose
unique images to coincide with each track. The images will be available with the Bandcamp release only.
NRV is the drone/ambient project by Sendai-based musician Nerve (Manabu Ito). He is best known as the
producer behind the electro-pop band Antennasia, incorporating dub, electronica, synth-pop, jazz, and
drum’n’ bass alongside San’s magnetic vocals. Their albums, “23 Bluebird St., Velo-City”, "Howling", “Error
Code : SFRN” and such, have been released from various labels around the world including
Lemongrassmusic (Germany), Meze (Detroit, US), Double Life Records (Japan).
Nerve is also the vocalist of the improvisational group Jai Machine, and the director and selector of a radio
show “OTO Radio” broadcast in Sendai, Japan. He is an active DJ and remixer, paralleling his work as a
commercial composer.
N/S 1 is scheduled for release June 21 on the Brooklyn based label FOIL IMPRINTS.
