A follow-up single to “sobyo” EP which was released March 2022, “Magritte Sky” shows a different side of NRV.

Different? Actually, this is the first ambient track by Nerve before NRV project had started. This song was written in 2020 after a video chat conversation with his friend in Belgium during the pandemic lockdown period. In the midst of the stagnant situation, the short conversation gave Nerve strong image of "some place other than here," and a certain sense of hope, and even salvation. The structure and sound of "Magritte Sky" is closer to the recent works of antennasia, an electronic alternative pop group which Nerve has worked with the vocalist, san, for more than 20 years, rather than to any work he produced under the name NRV. Just prior to the creation of "Magritte Sky," he had been working on antennasia's "Papier-Mâché "(2020) which incorporates elements of late 70s/early 80s synth-pop/post-punk. Also, there seems to be an influence from some Japanese ambient such as Hiroshi Yoshimura, Yasuaki Shimizu and Inoyama Land.

This missing-link song encompasses a beat, and it has a shimmering sound, even a vocal (through the vocal synth) with lyrics. His change of mind may be behind the release of this transitional piece. Will there be a continuation of this direction? The answer is perhaps blowing in the light blue sky.
