NRV 'Blue to Grey (feat. Yuji Monma)'
NPLF-001 / Nord Perdu Edition
The long-form piece 'Blue to Grey', which begins with a short phrase reminiscent of a ship's whistle, represents metaphorically the slow change in the color of the ocean. “In the past few years, I have had the feeling that things change so gradually that I don't even notice it, and before I know it, they are completely different. The change is probably initiated or accelerated by some event. I see the same ocean and fields that I saw when I was a child. On the surface, they do not look much different, but there seems to be some new noise mixed in with the scenery.” Nerve says. This piece has an arc structure consisting of A, B, and A'. Beginning with a pastoral A, followed by a disturbing B, A appears again, but it has a different resonance from the first A. Saxophonist and flutist Yuji Monma participates in this piece, improvising dynamically on a story that begins with a simple phrase composed by Nerve.
